2006 Alerion Express 38

Overview

Navigating through the mooring fields of your local harbor, you'll likely notice an increasing number of sailboats with a plumb bow, hard chines, and a wide transom - features that seem to be prerequisites for modern performance. Yet, these sharp lines blur together for many observers.

Hankering for a nostalgic nod to a more classic design language, your eyes may land on something different, the Alerion Express 38. This coastal cruiser boasts a unique blend of style and speed, checking the boxes for people who want to get where they are going quickly, comfortably and in a distinguished style.

This 2006 AE38, Grace, went through an extensive retrofit in 2018-2019, including new Awlgrip & bottom paint, new North 3DI Sails, custom cushions, and a custom mooring cover. She spends her winters in a heated shed, helping preserve the elegant brightwork.

Grace is a dream to sail, equipped with a self tending Hoyt jib boom, and all lines leading back to electric winches, the helmsman can easily pilot the boat through all points of sail while your guests relax from the comfort of the spacious cockpit.

Take a look for yourself!

Descriptions

SPECIFICATIONS:

ACCOMMODATIONS:

Grace's cabin is beautifully finished with varnished teak trim over white flat panels, providing a warm and inviting atmosphere below deck. Ample light permeates through six fixed ports and 3 vent-able hatches, illuminating the varnished teak and holly cabin sole.

Moving forward is the stateroom with a sizable 6'-6" V-berth. Above the berth, the hull is lined with varnished teak. There are two small bureaus with drawers to port & starboard.

Moving aft is the salon space flanked by straight settees covered in plush cushions. Above the port settee are the electrical distribution panels and aft is a hanging locker. Behind and below the seat backs, on either side, are cubbies with a considerable amount of storage space. Above the settees you'll find shelves with fiddles and lockers.

Aft and to port is the enclosed marine head, plumbed via a Y-valve to the holding tank. The vanity has ample storage via sliding mirrors, and below is a polished stainless steel sink with hot and cold water. The sink faucet can be extended up to allow for showering.

Aft and to starboard is a quaint galley, with white countertops, a large refrigerated ice box (12-volt), and a modest amount of pantry space. The galley is equipped with a stove top, oven, and stainless steel sink - everything you may need for a weekend retreat.

Artificial lighting is also available via overhead dome lights and swivel style tulip lights throughout the cabin, berth, head, and galley.

SAILS & RIGGING:

Grace comes with a fractional (double spreader) carbon fiber mast from Hall Spars, and an aluminum boom. She is also equipped with the quintessential self tending Hoyt jib boom. This design is known for its excellent light wind and off-wind performance, and is easily sailed single or double-handed.

The owner purchased new 3DI North sails in 2018, and they have only been used 4 times since. The new sails represent a $20,000 investment, and are in near perfect condition.

The Alerion 38 is a dream to sail, with all lines leading back to electric winches, allowing the helmsman to pilot the boat through all points of sail; while your guests relax in the cockpit, outfitted with comfortable cushions and backrests.

HULL & DECKS:

The cored fiberglass hull was constructed using the patented SCRIMP process, which provides optimal strength and mitigates any potential moisture intrusion.

The deck is finished with a two-tone Gull Grey non-skid on White. The cockpit is encompassed with varnished teak toe rails, coamings, and grab rails, providing an elegant touch to this traditional yacht. The deck hardware is all original polished stainless steel, and in excellent condition.

Sail lockers are accessible on the Port and Starboard side, and a large lazarette is accessed at the aft deck, which houses the autopilot components and steering cables, all kept in near perfect condition.
