Job Description and Summary:
The McMichael team is looking for an experienced and skilled Sailboat Rigger. Five plus years rigging experience is ideal, along with a willingness to learn new tasks. You will perform a variety of job functions including repair, maintenance, and replacement of sailboat rigging and sail systems, stepping and unstepping masts, completion of inspection check lists, and other designated tasks.
You will assist other departments, perform other yard duties assigned or as the situation dictates, including yard maintenance, general labor, crew assistance, and more. The right candidate is someone who will complete projects timely and effectively, maintain cleanliness on projects both during and after job completion, perform heavy lifting, climbing, and carrying during job process, and maintain awareness of and consistently practice safe work habits.
The successful candidate must be willing to learn new tasks and work well with other experienced yard team members to provide a well-executed, quality service to our boating customers. Responsibilities:
- Aid in unstepping and stepping masts
- De-rig and rig masts
- Install and test mast electrical components
- Carry out various repair and maintenance tasks as dictated by the needs of the vessel
- Answer our clients’ questions about maintaining their boats
- Repair faulty and malfunctioning rigging components
- Fill out accurate service records and repair documents
- Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and repeat business
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Formal marine mechanic training is preferred
- Deep knowledge of the components that allow boats to function
- Excellent mechanical skills and the ability to use a wide variety of tools and techniques
- A sailor or boater with cruising or racing experience
